Cardi B Explains The Real Meaning Behind Her New Single “UP” While appearing on “The Tonight Show” With Jimmy Fallon on Thursday (Feb 11) Cardi B explained the real meaning behind her new single “UP” which is already doing numbers. When she was asked to explain the lyrics of her latest hit, the “I Like It” emcee shed some light to provide clarity for all those confused about the real meaning of her hit, “Up.”
“If it’s up then it’s stuck” what does that mean? Jimmy asked. Cardi’s answer left Jimmy in shock.
“So have you ever took a poop right? and it don’t come out? It’s just up and it’s stuck, Yeah.” Cardi B responded.
“It’s a metaphorical quote,” she added.
In the song, Cardi B raps, “If it’s up, then it’s up, then it’s up, then it’s stuck.” “After the song came out, I thought it was like a Georgia thing. But then people is like, ‘No, we say that in New Orleans. We say that in Florida,’” she said
The Bronx emcee also explained how hard it is to a shoot music video in pandemic and the fact that she needs to focus on a couple of songs and videos for her much awaited sophomore album.
The “Bodak Yellow” hit maker’s use of the lyric “If it’s up then it’s stuck” was accused of plagiarism last week by two New Jersey artists — an allegation she immediately dismissed. She also responded to claims she only made songs for TikTok.
“It wasn’t me who started the ‘WAP’ challenge,” said Cardi. “I didn’t even knew how to the dance that’s why I never did the challenge in the first place. How ya mad that these female rappers songs becoming TikTok challenges because people genuinely wants to dance to it.”
All said and done, the good news for Cardi B is that the criticism must have been a blessing in disguise as it was followed by the success of her song, which currently holds the No. 1 position on Apple Music’s Top 100: USA chart.
