Akon Explains Why America Should Move Past Slavery. Slavery is a major sensitive topic in the US especially for Black Americans. Now African popular singer has now shared that America should move past slavery, he has given a few reason on why.

In a recent interview with VladTV, Akon had been asked about how slavery was viewed in his home country Senegal. The musicians shared that Senegal has somewhat overcome slavery and does not linger on it as much as African Americans do. The “Lonely” singer stated that the people in Senegal, which is an African country have found a way to move on from the past.

The 47 year old singer said “people have lived and moved way beyond the slavery concept … I think it;s the art of just letting the past go and moving towards the future”. He further shared that in the US there is a stigma of just not letting go and blaming the past every mishap. he further explained that the is no way one can move forward if they are carrying the weight of the past on their backs.

He also explained that African Americans must move on since reparations will not happen. he mentioned various racial groups that received reparations for certain ills done against them. He even went as far as encouraging Black Americans to move Africa because there they will no longer be the minority.

Akon’s opinion on African Americans to move past slavery received backlash and many found what he said as insensitive, he ending up catching a lot of heat from the public. The musician has received a lot of criticism for what he has said even when he has given out constructive advice.
