Last Week’s New Music: A Power-Packed Week in Rap

Last week delivered another stacked lineup of new rap releases, proving that 2026 is shaping up to be a huge year for hip hop. A$AP Rocky wasted no time following up his long-awaited album Don’t Be Dumb by teasing songs from the upcoming deluxe edition, including “Flackito Jodye” featuring Tokischa and “I Smoked Away My Brain” with Imogen Heap and Clams Casino. The tracks continue his signature blend of experimental production and bold lyricism, showing why fans waited eight years for this body of work.

Denzel Curry introduced his rambunctious new supergroup, The Scythe, featuring himself under the alias Big Ultra, A$AP Ferg, TiaCorine, Bktherula, and Key Nyata. Their debut album Strictly 4 The Scythe drops March 6. The lead single “Lit Effect,” produced by BNYX and Bryvn, gives a high-energy preview of the project, combining rapid-fire verses with dynamic production that matches the collective’s chaotic energy.

IDK continued his streak of critically acclaimed releases with Even the Devil Smiles. The 15-track album showcases his growth as a solo artist while assembling an all-star roster including Pusha T, Black Thought, MF DOOM, DMX, RZA, Madlib, No ID, Conductor Williams, and KAYTRANADA. From intricate wordplay to powerhouse collaborations, the project highlights IDK’s ability to balance underground credibility with mainstream appeal.

Roc Marciano returned with 656, a fully self-produced album featuring appearances from Errol Holden. The project continues his reputation for tight lyricism over classic boom-bap beats, cementing his status as one of New York’s most consistent and influential MCs.

Other notable releases included Cam’ron airing his issues with Damon Dash on “Letter To Dame,” 42 Dugg assembling heavy hitters like Lil Baby, GloRilla, G Herbo, and EST Gee for Part 3, and Curren$y defying stoner stereotypes with his new mixtape Everywhere You Look, featuring Wiz Khalifa, Trauma Tone, and Kino Beats.

R&B and hip hop crossovers also made waves. Ari Lennox returned with Vacancy, collaborating with Buju Banton, Jermaine Dupri, and Bryan-Michael Cox, while Hit-Boy released three new tracks, including “NBA Centel” and “Percentages.” Wiz Khalifa delivered “Too Blessed To Be Stressed,” and Kai Ka$h teamed with Marco Plus on “BADDIEHUB CONTENT.” Rich The Kid enlisted Blueface and DDG for “Vibes,” and Flo Milli released the playful “Flo Jackson.” Fred again.. and Young Thug dropped the emotive “Scared,” while Jordan Ward offered the introspective single “Stranger.”

Overall, last week showcased the diversity and energy in modern hip hop, from high-profile collaborations to solo artistry, supergroups, and boundary-pushing production. With deluxe editions, new supergroups, and multi-artist projects hitting simultaneously, fans had no shortage of music to explore, proving that the rap landscape continues to expand in creativity and influence.
