Kendrick Lamar continues to prove that even his unreleased material is exceptional. Over the years, fans have seen glimpses of unreleased tracks like Bodies and Cartoons & Cereal, which showcase the rapper’s unmatched creativity. Now, another hidden gem has emerged.
TDE affiliate MackWop recently shared an hour-long stream on his YouTube channel, during which he discovered one of Lamar’s recordings from the good kid, m.A.A.d city era. The session was inspired by a clip featuring Bootleg Kev discussing the making of the 2012 classic, as part of a video by Jeremy Hecht examining the early careers of Kendrick, Drake, and J. Cole.
The track samples Radiohead’s Everything In Its Right Place and sees Kendrick effortlessly flowing over the instrumental. MackWop expressed awe at the rapper’s performance, highlighting the skill Kendrick displayed even in his early developmental stages. The song currently has no official title, but fans hope it will see a formal release, potentially for the 15th or 20th anniversary of good kid, m.A.A.d city, which celebrated its 13th anniversary on October 22.
This discovery underlines how prolific Kendrick has been throughout his career. Each era of his discography is distinct, and the vault of unreleased songs offers a glimpse into the creative process behind his iconic albums.
Meanwhile, Kendrick is preparing for the next leg of his Grand National world tour. After completing a South America run in early October, including a final show in Chile, he will head to Australia for four dates. The tour kicks off on December 6 at Victoria Park, followed by shows on the 7th, 13th, and 14th. Doechii remains slated to join him for the Australian dates. Fans now have more reason to anticipate both live performances and potential archival releases, as Kendrick Lamar continues to demonstrate his influence on hip-hop through both new and previously unheard music.
