Best Selling Hip Hop Albums Of The Year Since 2010

The past 10 years have been interesting years for Hip Hop! Sales has for many years been the benchmark for how successful a release is and It’s however no suprise that Eminem and Drake have had the best run musically and commercially something widely (in many spheres) contributed to their crossover appeal. Below is a list of Best Selling Hip Hop Albums Of The Year Since 2010

2010 – Eminem Recovery (6× Platinum)

In August 2011, Recovery was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). At the 2011 Grammy Awards, it was nominated for Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Record of the Year; the latter two were for “Love the Way You Lie”. The album earned Eminem American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards and Grammy Awards.

2011- Drake – Take Care (6× Platinum)

Not only was Take Care such a huge commercial success, it was named one of 2011’s best albums, and later one of the best albums of the 2010s, by several publications. It won Drake his first Grammy Award, winning Best Rap Album at the 2013 Grammy Awards.

2012 – Kendrick Lamar – Good Kid, M.A.A.D City (3× Platinum)

Good Kid, M.A.A.D City debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200, selling 242,000 copies in its first week – earning the highest first-week hip hop album sales of 2012 from a male artist, along with the best-selling debut from a male artist of the year. It became Lamar’s first album to enter the UK Albums Chart, peaking at number 16, and entering the UK R&B Albums Chart at number two. The album was also named to many end-of-the-year lists, often topping them. 

2013 – Eminem – The Marshall Mathers LP 2 (4× Platinum)

The Marshall Mathers LP 2 debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, selling more than 792,000 copies in its first week. The album was named on multiple best album year-end lists. It won Eminem a record sixth Grammy Award for Best Rap Album at the 2015 Grammy Awards.

2013 – Drake – Nothing Was The Same (4× Platinum)

Nothing Was the Same was a commercial success, debuting at number one on the US Billboard 200 with 658,000 copies sold in its first week of release. Within three months of its release, the album became the seventh best-selling album of 2013 in the United States. It also debuted at number one in Canada and Denmark, and number two in Australia and the United Kingdom.It was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2014 Grammy Awards.

2014 – J Cole – Forest Hills Drive (3× Platinum)

Forest Hills Drive won Album of the Year at the 2015 BET Hip Hop Awards, and Top Rap Album at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards. It was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2016 Grammy Awards. The single “Apparently” was nominated for Best Rap Performance at the 58th Grammy Awards.

2015 – Drake – If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late (2× Platinum)

If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, with first week sales of 495,000 copies and 40,000 for online streaming credits, making this Drake’s fourth time at the top of the chart. The mixtape also broke Spotify’s first-week streaming record with over 17.3 million streams in the first three days.

2016 – Drake – Views (6× Platinum)

Views was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Rap Album at the 2017 Grammy Awards, while its lead single “Hotline Bling” won Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Performance. The album also won Top Billboard 200 Album at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, among other awards.

2017 – Kendrick Lamar – DAMN (3× Platinum)

Damn topped The Village Voice’s Pazz & Jop critics poll and was named the best album of 2017 by several other publications. It became the first non-jazz or classical work to earn a Pulitzer Prize for Music and won Best Rap Album at the 2018 Grammy Awards, as well receiving a nomination for Album of the Year at the ceremony.

2018 – Drake – Scorpion (5× Platinum)

The album received five nominations at the 2019 Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, and “God’s Plan” won Best Rap Song. The album also won Drake a second Top Billboard 200 Album of his career at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, among other awards.
