The Alchemist and Hit-Boy Unite for Joint Album ‘Goldfish’ and Short Film

Two of hip-hop’s most respected producers, The Alchemist and Hit-Boy, are joining forces for a full-length collaborative album titled Goldfish. The project drops on October 24 through EMPIRE.

The partnership brings together two powerhouse beatmakers who also hold their own as MCs. On Goldfish, each will rap over the other’s production, echoing the creative synergy of J Dilla and Madlib’s classic Jaylib project.

Alongside the album, the duo will release a short film titled Goldfish. According to a press release, the film stars Danny Trejo, known for Heat and Con Air, and Simon Rex of Scary Movie 3. The story follows a team of hit men disguised as carpet cleaners trying to leave behind their criminal past. The film promises dark humor, chaos, and stylish storytelling in line with the producers’ gritty, cinematic sound.

The rollout began with the release of the lead single Business Merger, a track driven by thumping drums and horn-heavy production from The Alchemist. Both artists trade sharp verses filled with confidence and wit, proving their lyrical ability matches their production mastery.

This collaboration builds on a solid working relationship between the two. They previously released the Theodore & Andre EP and Black & Whites, a joint project that also featured Hit-Boy’s father, Big Hit. They also teamed up on Slipping Into Darkness and shared production duties on Benny The Butcher’s Def Jam debut Everybody Can’t Go.

The Alchemist, known for his work with artists like Freddie Gibbs, Boldy James, and Earl Sweatshirt, continues to push the boundaries of hip-hop production with layered, sample-rich soundscapes. Hit-Boy, who has produced for Nas, Jay-Z, and Kanye West, has cemented his place as one of modern hip-hop’s most versatile producers.

With Goldfish, the two aim to merge their creative worlds into a single body of work that highlights their dual strengths behind the boards and on the mic. The combination of a full-length album and a narrative-driven short film suggests an ambitious, multidimensional project that will attract both hip-hop purists and new listeners.

Fans can expect Goldfish to deliver the kind of cohesive, high-quality artistry both producers are known for. The album’s concept, visual storytelling, and production pedigree set it up as one of the most anticipated hip-hop releases of 2025.
