Kanye West Documentary ‘In Whose Name?’ Trailer Reveals Intimate Look at Rapper’s Tumultuous Past Six Years

A new trailer for the upcoming Kanye West documentary In Whose Name? has been released, offering the first in-depth look at how the film will examine the life of one of music’s most polarizing figures. Directed by Nicolas Ballesteros, the project covers the last six years of West’s career and personal life, promising “a unique and cinematic perspective on Ye’s public transformation.”
The film draws from more than 3000 hours of footage, which Ballesteros condensed into a feature-length narrative. It will premiere in theaters on September 19. According to a description obtained by HipHop-n-More, the documentary shows West returning to his childhood home in Chicago. Viewers see him walking through empty rooms with neighbors who knew his family before fame. The scenes reveal a more reflective side of the rapper, as he addresses his roots, his grief, and his desire for family stability.
In Whose Name? also explores the dynamics within West’s inner circle, showing individuals who are loyal, opportunistic, and influential. The trailer features moments from his marriage and divorce from Kim Kardashian, his Sunday Service performances, and his 2020 presidential run.
Over the past six years, West has faced constant public scrutiny. He has been embroiled in controversy for comments and actions that critics say align with Nazi ideology. In May, he released a track titled “Heil Hitler,” which sparked significant backlash. Months earlier, he aired a Super Bowl LIX commercial promoting his website before releasing merchandise featuring a swastika. By late May, West publicly declared he was “done with antisemitism,” apologizing for the harm caused and stating that he loves “all people.”
Away from the headlines, West is also preparing for the release of his next album, Bully. The project was first teased in a short film directed by Hype Williams and is currently slated for release on September 26, 2025. The album has already faced multiple delays, leaving fans uncertain if it will meet the latest deadline.
With In Whose Name? set to premiere in just over a month, audiences will soon get a closer look at the personal and professional turning points that have shaped Kanye West’s recent years. The documentary is expected to spark fresh discussion about the rapper’s legacy, his controversies, and the influences driving his creative vision.
