TI Faces New Lawsuit Over 2016 Dr. Dre Collaboration

TI is facing another legal challenge in his long history of disputes. Billboard reports that producer Sir Jinx has filed a lawsuit claiming he was not properly compensated for his work on the 2016 Dr. Dre collaboration, “Dope.”
According to the lawsuit, “Despite repeated demands, including a formal demand letter dated November 11, 2022, defendants have failed and refused to provide an accounting or pay royalties owed to plaintiff.” Sir Jinx has pursued legal action against TI and his company, Grand Hustle, LLC, before. He filed a state court case in 2023 and a federal case this year. The first was dropped, and the second was dismissed.
Sir Jinx’s attorneys allege that he was unaware the song was publicly released. “Plaintiff later discovered that ‘Dope’ was released and exploited,” they state. “Defendants’ continued unauthorized use of ‘Dope’ has resulted in substantial financial harm to plaintiff.” He is seeking at least $800,000 in damages.
This is not the only ongoing legal battle for TI. In June, he and Grand Hustle were sued by Cylia Senii over the title of his unreleased film, Situationships. Senii created a 2016 web series with the same name and claimed that TI was attempting to capitalize on her brand. A federal judge temporarily barred TI from producing, promoting, or distributing any project using the term while the case continues. TI responded, arguing that the term is too generic to be protected and accusing Senii of failing to prove exclusive ownership of the brand.
With multiple lawsuits pending, TI continues to navigate complex legal challenges involving both his music and film ventures. The Sir Jinx case adds to the growing list of disputes over royalties, intellectual property, and business practices connected to the Atlanta rapper and his company.
