Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist Officially Announce ‘Alfredo 2’ Album: A Long-Awaited Sequel Is On the Way

Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist have finally delivered the news fans have been eagerly waiting for: their highly anticipated joint album, Alfredo 2, is officially on the way. The announcement comes five years after the release of their critically acclaimed 2020 project, Alfredo, which earned both artists widespread praise and a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album.
The duo revealed the news by sharing the artwork for the sequel, which cleverly nods to the original album’s iconic cover. This time, the imagery once again centers around a pasta dish, with puppet strings dangling above it, continuing the culinary and mafia-inspired theme that made Alfredo instantly recognizable.
While the announcement has sparked excitement across social media and music forums, the pair stopped short of providing an exact release date. The album’s rollout seems to be keeping fans on their toes. However, this project has been in the works for quite some time. Discussions about a follow-up started as early as 2021, when Gibbs hinted at recording plans in an interview with NPR. “Next [album] I want to go to Hawaii. We can record in Hawaii. I’m going to bring in like 20 strippers. I need it for my mindset,” Gibbs joked at the time, giving a glimpse into the creative energy surrounding the project.
In the midst of the Alfredo 2 buzz, Gibbs also recently addressed concerns about another highly anticipated collaboration with producer Madlib. Earlier this year, rumors swirled that their joint album had been lost in the wildfires that devastated parts of Los Angeles. The speculation started after a Reddit user shared their encounter with Gibbs at a work event, where he allegedly mentioned that an album was lost in the blaze that destroyed Madlib’s home.
The fan recounted: “Was at a work event this week and ran into Freddie twice! He walked past me and I was like wtf. Had to say hi when he wasn’t deep in a convo but he was so nice. We chatted for a bit and I asked about Madlib who lost his house in the fire and he said they lost an album that was done. Crazy anyways wanted to share!”
The rumor quickly gained traction online, with fans worried that the project might never see the light of day. But Gibbs swiftly took to X (formerly Twitter) to set the record straight, responding to reports of the lost album with a short but direct message: “This cap.”
The confusion stems from a very real and tragic situation involving Madlib, whose family home was destroyed in the L.A. wildfires. A fundraiser organized by his longtime manager, Stacy Epps, detailed the extent of the loss, which included decades of music and vital equipment. “Your donation, no matter the amount, will provide assistance to help Madlib with immediate personal needs, essentials like clothing, temporary housing, transportation costs, and the tools Madlib needs to continue creating the music that has touched so many lives,” the campaign read.
Meanwhile, The Alchemist has stayed busy, recently reflecting on missing out on contributing to Lil Wayne’s upcoming Tha Carter VI album. Despite that, his focus appears squarely back on Alfredo 2, a project fans believe will once again showcase the undeniable chemistry between him and Freddie Gibbs.
As anticipation continues to build, hip hop enthusiasts everywhere are counting down the days until more details, including a tracklist and release date, are unveiled. For now, the artwork alone has been enough to reignite the excitement around what promises to be one of the most talked-about rap releases of the year.
