Drake Reiterates Support for Tory Lanez Amid Prison Sentence

Drake has once again expressed his support for Tory Lanez, calling for the rapper to be freed from prison. While mocking Genius executive Rob Markman for failing to complete a Lil Wayne lyric, Drake took the opportunity to reaffirm his stance, writing on social media: “Of course this Goof Markman couldn’t finish the bar… free Tory.”
Lanez has not publicly responded to Drake’s latest show of support, but the Canadian rapper has consistently been one of his most vocal allies. Earlier in 2025, Drake shared a petition urging California Governor Gavin Newsom to pardon Lanez, who is serving a 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion less than two years ago. On Instagram Stories, Drake included the petition link and wrote, “@torylanez come home soon.”
Drake has maintained his support for Lanez even after the conviction, reflecting their longstanding personal and professional connection. Last year, he posted a picture of Lanez with the caption, “3 you,” signaling loyalty despite the controversy surrounding the shooting incident.
The situation has remained contentious. On his 2022 track “Circo Loco,” Drake appeared to reference the shooting, rapping: “This bitch lie about getting shots, but she still she a stallion / She don’t even get the joke, but she still smiling.” Megan Thee Stallion responded publicly, condemning the lyric and calling out rappers who use her experience for attention. She wrote, “Stop using my shooting for clout… Since when tf is it cool to joke abt women getting shot! You n-ggas especially RAP N-GGAS ARE LAME!”
She continued, emphasizing the broader issue of accountability and support, stating, “And when the mf facts come out remember all y’all hoe ass favorite rappers that stood behind a N-gga that SHOT A FEMALE… every time it never ends and this did NOT happen until I came out and said I got shot… y’all don’t fwm okay cool fuck it bye.”
Drake’s repeated support of Tory Lanez highlights ongoing debates within hip-hop about loyalty, accountability, and how artists navigate legal and moral controversies. As Lanez serves his sentence, the discussion around his release and public backing from figures like Drake continues to draw significant attention.
