Kid Cudi Wears A Dress On SNL And Fans React!

Kid Cudi Wears A Dress On SNL And Fans React! Singer and rapper Kid Cudi was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live (SNL), on Saturday (April 10th) and he made a memorable performance of his new song ‘Sad People’ by taking to the stage in a dress.

The performance was a moment that most viewers interpreted as homage to the late rock musician Kurt Cobain. During his first appearance, in which he performed ‘Tequila Shots’, Kid Cudi was dressed in a green cardigan over a shirt and T-shirt with the image of former SNL star Chris Farley, who passed on in 1997. The green cardigan, shirt and white T-shirt was an outfit famously worn by the Nirvana musician during the now-iconic MTV Unplugged concert. The floral print of Kid Cudi’s dress has also been pointed out as one that draws a similarity in design to that also worn by Cobain.

After singing ‘Sad People’ on an empty stage with no backing vocalists, Kid Cudi wrapped up the song with a shy-looking curtsey—and social media was soon flooded with messages of support from fans praising his performance, and his tribute to Cobain on the week that marked the 27th anniversary of the musician’s death. The rapper has also been applauded for shining a light on addiction and depression, issues that affected both Cobain and Farley.

Cudi has opened up publicly about his own struggles with mental illness in the past, and revealed his journey with depression in his collaborative album with Kanye West, 2018’s Kids See Ghosts (which coincidentally made around the same time as his last SNL appearance). On one of his tracks ‘Reborn’, he sings about his feelings of worthlessness, and how peace can only come from within.

On that note, with ‘Sad People’, it appears Cudi is continuing his mission to break the stigma and silence surrounding the topic of mental health—and doing so in a highly visible, unforgettable way.
