On Wednesday (March 17), the artist took to Twitter to give her views on the $1,400 stimulus payments that were deposited in the accounts of most eligible Americans. While at it, she grabbed the opportunity to hint at an upcoming end to her music career.

“#stimnyHitsAccount RETIREMENT SOUNDS GOOD. This is funny! Hella! Just thought I’d join in on the fun,” she tweeted. “I’m serious about retirement…but this is funny.”

Her fans came out with responses to the tweet with pleading with her to reconsider her plans.

“Please Keyshia you’re too young to retire!” a user tweeted. “We love your music, and I think you love music too! Please reconsider your decision.”

Another tweet from a fan read, “You can retire after album 8 drops!!! This is a compromise!!!” A third person expressed a similar sentiment writing, “Give us ONE MORE good album, and you can retire all you want ma’am.”

Cole first found her way into many of her fans hearts in 2005 with the release of her debut album, The Way It Is. It featured hit singles, “I Should’ve Cheated,” “Love” and “I Changed My Mind.” Since then, Cole has dropped six more albums, including her latest project, 11:11 Reset, which dropped in 2017.

At the start of the year, fans celebrated some of their favorite Keyshia Cole songs after the singer’s years-long dedication to her craft.Fans were sure to tune in to see her compete against Ashanti in a Verzuz. Despite multiple delays, the two singers finally managed to put on a show that pulled more than 11.3 million streams as of Feb. 1. Fans across the world were more than excited to revisit some of their hits.

Following her surprise brief notice about contemplating retirement, it remains unclear when exactly she plans to officially hang up her microphone. Fans are still anticipating the release of her 8th studio album, which she promises will be out soon. “I’m gonna have to move at my pace with this one,” she responded to a fan who wanted to know if she plans to cancel the entire project altogether.
