On a day when the world was meant to be filled with love and happiness, Nicki Minaj and her family were in mourning following the death of the Queen rapper’s father. Nicki Minaj‘s father was reportedly killed in a hit-and-run accident in New York.

According to a report by TMZ published on Sunday (Feb. 14), Minaj’s father Robert Maraj, 64, was walking on the road at the intersection of Roslyn Road and Raff Avenue in Mineola, New York on the evening of Feb. 12 when he was struck by a motorist around 6 p.m. EST. It was reported that witnesses were not able to catch a viable description of neither the suspect nor the vehicle that hit Maraj, before fleeing the scene.

Maraj was reportedly taken to a local hospital in critical condition. However, he eventually succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital. The Nassau County Police Department in New York is still hunting for the suspect behind the heinous act. They are heavily banking on the public’s assistance to bring to book Maraj’s killer.

The news of Nicki Minaj’s father’s passing comes just a few months after the birth of her first child with husband Kenneth Petty. The rapper has been conspicuously absent from the rap scene in recent months, appearing only as a feature artist, since the birth of her infant Nicki shared the first photos of her baby boy In January, whom she has nicknamed Papa Bear.
