Tyler, The Creator Reveals Chromakopia Nearly His Last Album for Years
Tyler, The Creator has revealed that his 2024 album, Chromakopia, was almost his final project for a long time. In a detailed Instagram post on Tuesday, he shared his original plans for the album and reflected on its impact.
“I was planning on this being my last album for a VERY long time,” Tyler wrote alongside a childhood photo. “Release it. Do the big tour. Go disappear and only pop out for movie roles. See what a life is like without work being top of mind. It’s hard tho, I love making things.”
Tyler described how Chromakopia exceeded his expectations. “I laugh to myself a lot because this album ended up taking me places the others didn’t. 15 years in; biggest it’s ever been. I’m in awe of the success. And what a beautiful tour! Love to the whole team! Lil Yachty, Paris Texas thank y’all for coming along. Thank you to everyone who came to see it (Cincinnati was my favorite show). It’s been a year since release, time is moving. To those who love this body of work, tell me about it. I hope it holds weight in your life. Thank you. What an incredible year.”
Alongside the post, Tyler shared a new version of Chromakopia with one additional track titled “Mother.” The song reflects on his upbringing and his relationship with his mother. In the track, he raps, “Momma told me not to come over there / But that’s all y’all knew, the red and the blue / I liked baby pink at the time / Homie made sure nobody came to press lines, fine.”
The original Chromakopia dropped in October 2024 and featured collaborations with Daniel Caesar, Doechii, GloRilla, Lil Wayne, Lola Young, Santigold, Schoolboy Q, Sexyy Red, and Teezo Touchdown. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and was followed in July 2025 by Tyler’s next project, Don’t Tap the Glass, which includes appearances from Pharrell Williams, Madison McFerrin, and Yebba.
Tyler’s reflections highlight the personal and professional growth he experienced with Chromakopia, confirming its significance in his discography and giving fans insight into the creative process behind one of his most successful projects.
