The Weeknd Teases He Will Be Dropping New Song As An NFT

The Weeknd Teases He Will Be Dropping New Song As An NFT! The Weeknd has never shied away from pushing the boundaries, and from the look of things, the “Blinding Lights” hit maker is ready and willing to embrace new technological advances in the music industry. With the emergence of NFTs (Non Fungible Tokens) taking the cryptocurrency sphere by storm, a number of artists have recently come forward to experiment with the unique format.

The Weeknd seems to be gearing up to join the bandwagon as the latest high profile celebrity to hop onto the bubble before it bursts.

“New song living in NFT space,” The Weeknd, announced on Friday, March 26th. “Coming soon.” In the same Twitter update thread, he hinted that “this chapter isn’t quite done yet,” implying that the said chapter will center on After Hours and the songs that it spawned.

At the time of this press release, The Weeknd has yet to shed more light on his upcoming song release, sparking many questions surrounding the track’s exclusivity. With NFTs still a relatively new development, many artists are still in the learning phase, though a number of artists in the hip-hop sphere have already kicked off the process of implementing them into their marketing strategies. Ja Rule recently auctioned an original Fyre Festival painting for an approximated $122,000 as an NFT, while Azealia Banks offered up a sex tape with her fiancé Ryder Ripps as an NFT. Outside of hip-hop, Kings Of Leon made history as the first band to release an album as an NFT, allegedly racking up over two million dollars in sales.

Keep it here for further news on The Weeknd’s big leap into the strange and exciting world of NFTs as it happens.
