Last week felt like Christmas early for rap fans, with a wave of new releases from some of the genre’s most respected names. Leading the pack is Nas and DJ Premier with Light-Years, a long-awaited collaboration that cements their legacy as one of hip-hop’s most influential rapper-producer duos. The album closes Mass Appeal Records’ Legend Has It… series and features appearances from AZ and the Steve Miller Band, blending classic boom-bap with modern sensibilities.
21 Savage continued his prolific streak with What Happened to the Streets?, a star-studded project featuring Drake, Lil Baby, Metro Boomin, Latto, GloRilla, G Herbo, Young Nudy, and Jawan Harris. The album addresses contemporary street narratives while highlighting Savage’s evolving artistry.
Conway The Machine dropped You Can’t Kill God With Bullets, further proving his dominance in the rap scene. Unlike previous projects, this one skips Griselda features but includes contributions from Roc Marciano, G Herbo, Tony Yayo, DJ Whoo Kid, Lady London, Heather Victoria, and KNDRX, showcasing Conway’s ability to command attention on his own terms.
Max B and Pooh Shiesty marked their post-prison returns with new releases. French Montana teamed with Max B on Make America Wavy Again (MAWA), produced by Dame Grease, Red McFly, and French Montana. Pooh Shiesty’s FDO (First Day Out), produced by TP808, reflects his signature energy.
Bun B and Statik Selektah released TrillStatik 5, their fifth album in the series, featuring Busta Rhymes, Talib Kweli, Termanology, NEMS, Bone Crusher, Robb Bank$, and Propain. Remarkably, the album was recorded in a single day, capturing raw, energetic performances. Lil Tjay returned with Therapy Session, while Bone Thugs-N-Harmony released the track Over, produced by Seán O’Meara.
