Cash Cobain Confirms JAY-Z Is Not Dropping a New Album

Cash Cobain recently stirred excitement when he suggested that JAY-Z was in the studio working on a new album. During an interview on Billboard Unfiltered Live last week, the producer claimed the project would be “earth-shattering.” “I heard Jay-Z is about to drop some sh*t thats gonna shake the world. That’s what I heard,” he shared, sparking speculation among fans and media outlets.
However, Cash Cobain later confirmed on X that the rumors were false. According to him, JAY-Z personally called to clarify that no album is in the works. “When I was on the phone with Hov he said that he is absolutely not dropping an album [laughing emojis]. That messed me up tho,” Cash Cobain wrote. This revelation put to rest the excitement generated by the initial claims.
Even though JAY-Z denied a full project, some insiders hinted he is working on music. Former Roc-A-Fella Records signee Memphis Bleek shared on Drink Champs that he recently connected with JAY-Z in Las Vegas. “I just was with him in Vegas. He just came out on the show, and my n****, they went stupid. I said, ‘Listen, I know you workin. Save me a verse.’” Bleek claimed JAY-Z replied, “‘All right, I got you.’” While this shows Hov is still creating, it does not confirm a full album release.
Producers like The Alchemist have also expressed hope for new JAY-Z material, imagining what a comeback could mean for the industry. DJ EFN encouraged The Alchemist to leverage his connection to request a track, emphasizing the anticipation surrounding Hov’s music.
Fans may have to be patient. It has been over eight years since JAY-Z released 4:44 on June 30, 2017. The album earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album and debuted at number one with 262,000 copies sold, proving that every release from the rapper is a major cultural event. While the prospect of a new project remains uncertain, the music world continues to watch closely, eager for the next chapter in JAY-Z’s legendary career.
