NBA YoungBoy and DJ Khaled’s Mixtape Deshawn Struggles on Billboard 200

NBA YoungBoy and DJ Khaled’s new mixtape, Deshawn, failed to make a strong impact on the Billboard 200 in its first week. According to Chart Data, the project moved just 11,000 album-equivalent units and debuted at No. 135.
The numbers sparked discussion online after DJ Akademiks shared the chart position on Instagram. Many fans defended YoungBoy, arguing that his lack of promotion and frequent releases hurt his sales. “YB doesn’t care bout them numbers … n***a barely markets his music … tape was hard asf tape in if u agreee,” one fan commented. Another wrote, “Tape was hard he just not gone have that many streams cause he drop so often.”
Deshawn arrived last Monday without any prior announcement. The 10-track project featured just one guest appearance from Kevin Gates. Its release came only weeks after YoungBoy’s eighth studio album, MASA (Make America Slime Again), further fueling the narrative that his nonstop output affects streaming performance.
The mixtape also stirred controversy for its lyrical content. On the closing track, “This Month Confessions,” YoungBoy referenced his ex-girlfriend Yaya Mayweather, rapping: “I’m that n**a, I got hella dope / She don’t like that I’m accessible / Now Yaya pregnant, gotta make her get rid of it, this ain’t the time, I told you, ‘No’ / I made you cry, now I feel illiterate, btch, I ain’t tryna write no songs.”
Mayweather quickly denied the pregnancy rumors sparked by the lyric. She posted on Instagram, “Idk where y’all getting this from but I’m not pregnant.” Her statement came shortly after she had congratulated YoungBoy on the release, writing, “I am so proud of you and everything you’ve been doing. No matter what keep going your strength and determination inspire me every day. I love you more than words could ever explain, and no matter how far away you go in the world I’ll always be here for you, cheering you on. You’re never alone.”
Despite the low chart placement and surrounding drama, YoungBoy’s loyal fan base continues to support his music, reinforcing his reputation as one of hip hop’s most prolific artists.
