Chris Brown Jailed in the UK Over 2023 Assault Allegation as Odell Beckham Jr. Demands His Release

Chris Brown is currently behind bars in the United Kingdom following his arrest in connection with an alleged assault that took place two years ago—and one of his most famous friends is already campaigning for his release.
NFL superstar Odell Beckham Jr. took to Instagram to show support for the embattled R&B singer, posting a photo of the two together along with the caption, “Free Breeeezyyy.” The Baltimore Ravens wide receiver added, “The moral compass will never lie … we waiting on ya,” making it clear he believes Brown is being unfairly treated.
The 35-year-old artist was taken into custody on May 16 shortly after arriving in the UK via private jet. His arrest stems from an incident that allegedly occurred at Tape nightclub in London in 2023, involving music producer Abe Diaw. Brown was denied bail by the court and will remain incarcerated until at least his next hearing, which is scheduled for June 13.
This legal development comes just ahead of Brown’s highly anticipated Breezy Bowl tour, which is set to kick off on June 15—just two days after his court appearance. As of now, it remains unclear how his arrest will impact the tour dates, and Brown’s team has yet to release a statement regarding the situation or the future of the shows.
According to the allegations, Brown is accused of striking Diaw in the head with a bottle of tequila before “ruthlessly” stomping on him while he was on the ground, resulting in the producer losing consciousness. Prosecutors claim the incident was captured on CCTV and have described the case as “extremely serious.” Diaw also accused Brown of spreading false rumors about him following the incident. He filed a lawsuit against the singer that same year, alleging the attack left him with “severe and lasting injuries.” It is not known whether that civil matter was ever resolved privately.
Brown’s legal troubles in the UK date back over a decade. He was previously banned from entering the country after his 2009 conviction for assaulting pop star Rihanna. That ban lasted until 2020 when it was lifted by former Home Secretary Priti Patel.
Authorities reportedly attempted to question Brown in 2023 regarding the nightclub altercation, but he left the UK before any formal interviews could take place. His sudden reentry into the country earlier this month provided law enforcement with the opportunity to act on the outstanding investigation.
As fans and celebrities like Beckham Jr. continue to rally behind him, all eyes are on Brown’s June 13 court date to see whether he’ll be allowed to walk free—or miss out on one of his biggest tours in years.
