Beanie Sigel Accuses Jay-Z of Ghostwriting for Memphis Bleek

The relationship between Beanie Sigel and Jay-Z has always been a complicated one. While Jay helped elevate Beanie Sigel to stardom, their journey has also been marred by moments of tension and disappointment. Recently, Sigel sat down with The Art of Dialogue and aired some dirty laundry, including claims that Jay-Z ghostwrote songs for Memphis Bleek, a fellow Roc-A-Fella protege, and gave him preferential treatment during group collaborations.

Sigel didn’t mince words as he described Jay’s involvement with Bleek’s music. “Of course, Jay helped Bleek out on a lot of sh*t,” Beanie Sigel stated. “You can hear it.” He advised fans to listen closely to Memphis Bleek’s rhyme scheme, implying that Jay was heavily involved in Bleek’s lyricism. Sigel went further, accusing Hov of “cheating” for Bleek when the three of them collaborated on Roc-A-Fella posse cuts. “He had to cheat for Bleek,” Sigel explained, especially during moments when the three rappers were on the same track. “If I ain’t right there with Jay, too far behind him, Bleek wouldn’t have stood a chance.”

Sigel points to The Dynasty: Roc La Familia album, released in 2000, as one of the key moments when Jay allegedly ghostwrote for Bleek. According to Sigel, multiple tracks were supposed to feature all three artists, but Bleek’s verses appeared suddenly—without Sigel being present in the studio for the recording. “Let’s just say it was five records. Me and Jay and Bleek was supposed to be on ’em. And he wasn’t on none of them. Like for weeks,” Sigel recalled. “Then one day, I come to the studio and Bleek on four of the records.” Sigel strongly suggests that Jay-Z provided “assistance” during this process, ultimately giving Bleek the edge over him.

These accusations are not entirely new. Dame Dash, co-founder of Roc-A-Fella, made similar claims about Jay-Z’s involvement in Bleek’s rhymes during a 2024 interview. “Jay was writing a lot of his rhymes, so if Jay retired, that meant Bleek’s business would’ve ended too,” Dash alleged. Memphis Bleek, however, quickly dismissed these ghostwriting accusations. On Twitter, he called out Dash, saying, “He wilding right now, bro,” and denied the claims, suggesting Dash was just looking for attention.

While Memphis Bleek’s denial may offer some clarity on his own perspective, the fact that two credible sources—Beanie Sigel and Dame Dash—have made similar claims regarding Jay-Z’s alleged ghostwriting raises questions. Whether or not Jay truly ghostwrote for Bleek, one thing is clear: the dynamics within Roc-A-Fella were far more complex than the public may have realized.

As Beanie Sigel continues to speak out about the inner workings of Roc-A-Fella, his revelations only add to the ongoing conversation about the role of ghostwriting in the music industry, especially among the powerful figures in hip hop. Whether or not these claims will alter Jay-Z’s legacy remains to be seen, but for now, it seems the complicated history between the two men continues to unfold.
