Doechii Is Ready for 2025: Debut Album, Grammy Nominations, and More

Doechii is having a moment. The rising star, who is signed to TDE (Top Dawg Entertainment), has seen a meteoric rise this year, earning Grammy nominations, delivering an acclaimed TV performance, and recently treating fans to a mesmerizing Tiny Desk Concert. But if you think she’s slowing down, think again. The artist, who has been making waves with her mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal, is gearing up for an even bigger 2025 with the release of her highly anticipated debut album.

In an exclusive interview with Variety published on December 6, Doechii revealed that her debut LP is slated for release next year. For fans eagerly awaiting new music, she confirmed that the album will feature live instrumentation, giving it a distinct sound and energy compared to her previous projects. The self-proclaimed “Swamp Princess” expressed her excitement about what’s to come, focusing all of her attention on the album and her continued rise in the music world.

“All I can think about is this album, so I’m just looking forward to making more hits, making more music and achieving more of my goals,” she told Variety.

Doechii’s journey so far has been nothing short of remarkable. Alligator Bites Never Heal—which she has clarified is a mixtape and not her debut album—has been widely praised for its innovative sound, blending elements of hip-hop, R&B, and experimental music. The project’s success helped catapult her into the spotlight, but she’s clear about her vision for the future, telling fans that her first official album will be an even more ambitious body of work.

A Showstopping Performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Just days before her interview with Variety, Doechii gave fans a taste of what’s to come with an unforgettable performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on December 4. Performing a medley of tracks from Alligator Bites Never Heal, she delivered a spellbinding showcase that featured two dancers in matching Gucci skirts. The performance was a visual and musical experience, as Doechii seamlessly blended her high-energy rapping with striking choreography.

The performance wasn’t just about showcasing her musical talents—it was also an homage to hip-hop and Black women. Doechii opened and closed her set with quotes from the late MF DOOM’s 2011 Red Bull Music Academy lecture, a tribute to one of her biggest inspirations. She also made it clear that the performance was deeply personal, expressing her connection to the culture of hip-hop and her roots as a Black woman in the industry.

“This one is for Hip Hop,” Doechii wrote on X (formerly Twitter) after the performance. “I felt heavily inspired by the lineage of Hip Hop and how it contributes to who I am today.”

The artist also shared that the performance was her first self-choreographed one, highlighting the importance of Black women in hip-hop and showcasing the luxury, history, and artistry that she believes hip-hop embodies. “This is blackness. This is luxury. This is history,” she added.

Looking Ahead to 2025 and Beyond

With the release of her debut album slated for 2025, Doechii is ready to continue making her mark on the music industry. She’s been building momentum with each project, and it’s clear that she’s just getting started. In addition to her musical pursuits, Doechii’s performances and artistry demonstrate a deep commitment to celebrating both her roots and the future of hip-hop.

As she prepares for her debut album, fans can expect more of the genre-blurring, high-energy music that has made Doechii one of the most exciting names in the industry. From her memorable performances to her unwavering focus on her craft, Doechii is positioning herself to be a force in 2025 and beyond.
