A$AP Rocky’s ‘Don’t Be Dumb’ Set for a Tim Burton-Infused Release

A$AP Rocky’s long-awaited fourth album, Don’t Be Dumb, is finally on the horizon, and it promises a unique cinematic twist thanks to the involvement of legendary filmmaker Tim Burton. On December 16, Rocky unveiled the album artwork, marking a major step toward the project’s official release.
The cover art, designed by Burton, features multiple illustrations of Rocky in the director’s signature gothic and surreal style. At the center is a giant “no” symbol with Don’t Be Dumb written inside, clearly signaling the collaborative effort. Burton’s name is prominently credited on the cover, fueling speculation about the visual and musical direction of the album.
Rocky teased the release on social media, writing: “SORRY 4 THE WAIT DON’T BE DUMB FINALLY HERE! THANKS TIM BURTON FOR HELPING ME MAKE THIS MOVIE! COMING SOON.” While it remains unclear whether a full-length movie will accompany the album or if Burton is directing music videos exclusively, the partnership has drawn widespread attention.
The Harlem rapper has spoken about Burton’s involvement throughout the past year. In a 2024 interview with Billboard, Rocky said, “I sat and I played the album for Tim Burton, and he was fucking with it heavy … He was rocking his head and was like, ‘Wow! I didn’t know you made that kind of music!’” He also expressed his admiration for Burton in Vanity Fair, noting the filmmaker’s influence on his creative vision. Rocky highlighted Burton’s mastery of claymation, live-action, and German Expressionism as key inspirations, calling him “a fucking genius.”
Rocky has extended the collaboration to music, enlisting longtime Burton composer Danny Elfman to score parts of Don’t Be Dumb. “Danny Elfman did my album with me, he scored a bunch of the songs,” Rocky revealed. “We had [the TV] on mute and were just making music to all of the old films, Pee-wee’s Playhouse and The Simpsons, all that.”
Additional contributions to the album are expected from Metro Boomin, Tyler, The Creator, Busta Rhymes, The Alchemist, and Morrissey, promising a diverse and high-profile lineup.
While an official release date has not been confirmed, industry speculation points to January 16, 2026. This follows Rocky’s appearance at Tyler, The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival, where he wore a shirt featuring the numbers “01162026,” widely interpreted as a hint at the album’s drop.
Don’t Be Dumb signals a bold artistic shift for A$AP Rocky, blending music, visual art, and cinematic influences. With Burton’s creative input and contributions from top-tier artists, the album is shaping up to be a landmark project in contemporary hip-hop.
