New Hip-Hop Releases Last Week Channel MMG Vibes with Wale, Meek Mill and Rick Ross

Last week’s new music releases feel like a nod to the MMG era, with major contributions from Wale, Meek Mill, and Rick Ross, even though the trio didn’t collaborate directly. Hip-hop fans received a mix of nostalgia and fresh sounds across multiple projects, demonstrating the genre’s evolving landscape while honoring its roots.
Wale returns after four years with his eighth studio album, Everything Is A Lot, marking his first release under Def Jam. The album highlights his versatility, blending introspective lyrics with club-ready tracks. Features include Leon Thomas, Shaboozey, Ty Dolla $ign, BNYX, Nino Paid, and Odeal, giving the record a mix of soulful harmonies, melodic hooks, and hard-hitting verses. This release reinforces Wale’s ability to innovate while staying true to his signature style.
Meek Mill continues to define his post-MMG era with Indie Pack (Vol. 01), a concise four-track EP dropped via his Dreamchasers imprint. Fridayy provides the sole feature, keeping the focus on Meek’s lyricism and personal storytelling. The EP demonstrates Meek’s determination to maintain relevance independently, delivering the same energy and confidence that fans expect from his work.
Rick Ross joins forces with Kevin Gates on the “I’m a Dog (Remix),” rapping over the classic “I’m a Boss” beat. Fourteen years after the original, Rozay proves he can still command attention, adding a fresh verse while staying true to the track’s triumphant energy.
Other notable releases included De La Soul’s reunion with Q-Tip on “Day in the Sun (Gettin’ Wit U),” a single from their upcoming Cabin in the Sky album. Cardi B tapped Jeezy for a remix of “ErrTime,” which evokes the energy of early Thug Motivation 101 sessions. Lil Baby continued The Leak$ rollout with “Otha Boy,” delivering another aggressive and catchy loosie.
Surprise collaborations and high-profile projects also made waves. Boosie Badazz and NBA YoungBoy released the joint album 225 Business, while Summer Walker dropped Finally Over It, featuring Chris Brown, 21 Savage, Doja Cat, GloRilla, Latto, Anderson .Paak, Sexyy Red, Bryson Tiller, Mariah the Scientist, and Brent Faiyaz. Boldy James teamed up with Nicholas Craven for Criminally Attached, and Navy Blue released The Sword & The Soaring, featuring Earl Sweatshirt.
Additional highlights include Tee Grizzley’s Street Psalms with features from Polo G and Rod Wave, Big K.R.I.T.’s “The Mileage,” Ransom & Conductor Williams’ “Bomaye,” Wallie the Sensei’s “Beam” featuring Roddy Ricch, IDK’s “Scary Merri,” AZ Chike’s “Hit a Nerve,” Kaelin Ellis’ “Come and Go” featuring Mick Jenkins and Saba, reggie’s “Sometimes,” and Oh No’s Nodega featuring Ghostface Killah, The Alchemist, Talib Kweli, Logic, Blu, Rah Digga, MED, Aloe Blacc, and Guilty Simpson.
The week proved that hip-hop continues to balance homage and innovation, blending veteran presence with new voices. Fans of MMG-era sounds found plenty to enjoy, while the diversity of releases ensured the current generation also had standout tracks to explore.
