Young Thug Faces Backlash Over UY Scuti Album Cover

Young Thug revealed the cover art for his upcoming album UY Scuti on Thursday, sparking widespread reactions on social media. The artwork features Thug staring directly at the camera, but with strikingly altered features: his skin appears white and his eyes are bright blue.

Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their reactions. One user wrote, “Mf got Delonte West as the Album Cover…” Another pleaded, “I beg you with everything you love, do not make this the cover art.” Some even suggested the cover might affect the album’s performance, with one fan saying, “Thug the cover so ugly this might genuinely effect streams.”
Thug is no stranger to provocative album art. Past projects include Jeffery, where he wore an elaborate dress, and his mixtape Barter 6, where he posed nude. These previous covers were widely discussed but celebrated for their boldness, making the reaction to UY Scuti notably harsher.
UY Scuti is set to release as Young Thug’s fourth studio album on Friday, September 26. Fans can stream it from midnight across platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, and Tidal. Digital and physical pre-orders, including vinyl, CDs, and box sets, are available through his official website.
Thug explained the inspiration behind the album’s title in a GQ interview, saying, “I just feel big, you know. The name of my album UY Scuti. I feel like I’m one of the biggest stars. I did a lot. Founding this culture. The new rap game that’s happening right now. I’m out of this world. Not like God, though.”
The album’s tracklist remains unreleased, though the lead single “Money on Money,” featuring Future, has already dropped. Thug has hinted at a collaboration with YFN Lucci. Speculation about other features has been complicated by the leak of several controversial jail calls, where Thug criticized collaborators including Future, Gunna, Kendrick Lamar, and admitted to being unfaithful to Mariah the Scientist.
Despite the mixed reactions to the cover art, anticipation for UY Scuti remains high, as fans prepare for what could be one of Thug’s most talked-about projects yet.
