Kodak Black Honored with Key to Pompano Beach for Giving Back to His Community
Kodak Black has once again been recognized by his hometown, Pompano Beach, Florida—this time with one of the city’s highest symbolic honors. The rapper, born Bill K. Kapri, was presented with the key to the city earlier this week during a ceremony at City Commission Chambers, hosted by Mayor Rex Hardin. The moment, captured and shared by DJ Akademiks, was both heartfelt and humbling for the 27-year-old artist.
The honor was awarded in recognition of Kodak’s ongoing philanthropic efforts within the community. Over the years, he’s quietly given back in meaningful ways, donating air conditioning units to residents during Florida’s sweltering summers, distributing free turkeys during Thanksgiving, handing out Christmas gifts, and more.
“This recognition is not about celebrity,” Mayor Hardin said during the ceremony. “It’s about heart. Kodak Black has consistently and quietly extended a hand to lift up others in our community, and today we want to shine a light on those efforts and say thank you—from the entire city.”
A visibly moved Kodak Black expressed gratitude at the event, saying, “I feel wonderful. I feel great. It’s an honor, like man, me? Y’all sure? It’s great.” This is not the first time Pompano Beach has celebrated the rapper’s contributions. In 2021, the city proclaimed June 11th—his birthday—as “Kodak Black Day.”
