A$AP Rocky Criticizes Drake Over Taking Beef With Kendrick Lamar to Court

A$AP Rocky recently addressed the ongoing legal feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar in a candid interview with ELLE magazine, expressing disapproval of the rapper’s decision to take the conflict to court. Rocky, who has a history of involvement in the situation, criticized his former collaborator for suing Universal Music Group over Kendrick’s diss track “Not Like Us.”

Rocky explained that the original dispute was strictly between Drake and Kendrick and that outside parties, including himself, were not meant to be involved. He reflected on his own entanglement, recalling how he threw lyrical shots at Drake on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Show of Hands,” which prompted responses on Drake’s “Family Matters.” Rocky said, “The battle was between Kendrick and Drake, not Drake and everybody else who might have said something at that time, and that’s mainly why I fell back.”

He continued, expressing frustration over the legal approach. “I just hate the way it’s turning out with [Drake] suing and all that. What part of the game is that? What type of shit is that? That’s none of my business, I guess.” His remarks highlight the tension within the hip-hop community, where many fans and artists feel that disputes should remain in the artistic or personal realm rather than being settled in court. Drake’s lawsuit, filed in January, accuses Universal Music Group of defamation and harassment, targeting the parent company of both his and Kendrick’s longtime labels. The case has sparked widespread discussion in the industry, drawing reactions from figures like Pusha T, Joe Budden, and even Kendrick himself.

During the ELLE interview, Rocky also spoke about the delay of his upcoming album Don’t Be Dumb, attributing it to the complexities of his personal life. He referenced his recently resolved felony assault case, saying, “I don’t want to primarily blame it on my case, but life was lifeing.” He also touched on his relationship with Rihanna and the adjustments required when personal priorities shift, stating, “We don’t plan on having children, but when it happens, you gotta adjust and move with it. I gotta be present for my family, because that’s first.”

Rocky’s comments offer insight into how artists navigate both legal conflicts and personal responsibilities while maintaining their careers. His critique of Drake’s courtroom approach underscores a sentiment in the hip-hop community that artistic disputes are better handled outside of legal channels, emphasizing respect for the culture and the creative process. At the same time, his reflections on family and personal priorities reveal the human side of the rapper, showing how life off-stage can impact professional timelines.
