Kid Cudi Says No to Features on Future Albums, Reflects on Diddy Trial Drama

Kid Cudi has declared a major shift in how he’ll approach music moving forward—he’s officially done with features, unless they happen “organically.” The rapper and producer, known for his emotionally raw and sonically expansive style, took to social media to make it clear that his upcoming work will be a solo experience.

“No features, just me,” Cudi wrote. “I think I’m over features unless it happens organically. There’s people I’ve had on my albums that I haven’t talked to in years. Didn’t promote the album, just went ghost. Makes me feel weird. So with this one, I was like, f**k that. I don’t need anyone else on this one. I’m enough to keep you engaged. Some people need features. Not me.”

Cudi’s next album, Free, is scheduled to drop on August 22, and it will reflect this new direction. With his signature introspective storytelling and genre-blending production, the Cleveland artist seems confident that his own voice is all he needs.

But music isn’t the only reason Cudi has been making headlines this year.

He recently took the stand in the high-profile sex trafficking trial involving Sean “Diddy” Combs, where he accused the music mogul of harassing him after learning about his relationship with Cassie, Diddy’s ex-girlfriend.

Cudi claimed that after Diddy confronted him over the phone, he returned home to find his house broken into, his dog injured and locked in a bathroom, and his security system mysteriously disabled. “They even went through Christmas presents meant for my family,” Cudi testified. “After that day, my dog became jittery and on edge.”

The “Day ‘n’ Nite” rapper also said he suspected Diddy of setting fire to his Porsche in what he believed was an act of retaliation. He added that he filed a police report after the break-in, and Diddy’s former assistant later alleged that Combs had once plotted to kill Cudi over his involvement with Cassie.

While the testimony earned Cudi praise from some for speaking out, others in the hip-hop world responded with criticism. Kanye West publicly dissed him, and Young Thug labeled him a “rat.” In retaliation, Cudi removed Young Thug’s guest verse from his Insano album.

As Cudi prepares to release Free, the decision to go featureless feels like more than a creative move—it’s a declaration of independence and self-preservation. After a tumultuous year marked by personal conflict and public scrutiny, he’s choosing to stand alone—musically and morally.
