Future Celebrates 10 Years of DS2 with Ballet Performance in New York

Future has been a dominant force in hip-hop for more than a decade, and one of his most acclaimed projects is now turning ten. To mark the anniversary of his 2015 classic DS2, the Atlanta superstar is bringing the album to life in a bold new way.

According to AllHipHop, Future has partnered with Grand Marnier and choreographer Ebony Williams for DS2 Remixed: The Ballet, a special concert scheduled for September 19 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Howard Gilman Opera House. The event will merge hip-hop and ballet, showcasing an all-Black group of dancers under Williams’ direction. Williams is no stranger to iconic performances, having appeared in Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” video. Fashion designer LaQuan Smith will create the wardrobe for the show, further elevating the production.

Mari Ogino, Director of Corporate Strategy at the Academy, praised the concept, stating, “This is the kind of bold work that truly excites us because it creates an organic opportunity for authentic engagement, audience cultivation, and to grow our ever-evolving community. We’re proud to partner with Grand Marnier on this landmark performance that so beautifully fuses innovation with representation.”

Future himself reflected on the milestone and its cultural impact. “DS2 changed the game for me,” he said. “A decade later and you still feel that energy everywhere. To see a mixtape I made turned into a ballet with Grand Marnier, right here in NYC? That’s different. That’s legendary.”

The anniversary of DS2 has already sparked renewed excitement. Originally released on July 17, 2015, it became Future’s first number one full-length album, cementing his influence on rap and trap music. Recently, a scrapped music video for “Thought It Was A Drought,” directed by Ferg, surfaced online through a fan upload on YouTube. The leak reminded many of how deeply the album resonated when it first dropped and how it continues to inspire fans.

Beyond this unique ballet performance, Future shows no signs of slowing down. With more performances lined up and speculation about new music on the horizon, 2025 looks set to continue his streak of reinvention. Fans in Brooklyn will witness something unprecedented, as one of hip-hop’s most influential voices reimagines a decade-old classic through the lens of art, dance, and cultural innovation.
