Tyler, The Creator’s ‘DON’T TAP THE GLASS’ Debuts at No. 1 With Massive First-Week Sales

Tyler, The Creator has once again proven why he’s one of the most innovative and influential artists of his generation. His latest album DON’T TAP THE GLASS just made a splashy entrance, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, according to Luminate. The project, which dropped on Monday, July 21, managed to rack up 197,000 album-equivalent units in just four days—an impressive feat considering the shortened tracking week.

This milestone marks Tyler’s fourth consecutive No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 with a new studio album. His chart-topping streak began with IGOR in 2019, followed by CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST in 2021, and CHROMAKOPIA in 2024. Even the deluxe Estate Sale edition of CMIYGL in 2023 performed strongly, further cementing Tyler’s position as a commercial and critical powerhouse.

Unlike many modern releases dominated by streaming numbers, DON’T TAP THE GLASS saw the bulk of its first-week performance driven by traditional album sales. Of the 197K units sold, 128K came from physical sales—mainly vinyl and CD formats. Limited-edition box sets helped boost those numbers, and fans who purchased physical copies were treated to an exclusive bonus track not available on streaming platforms. The remaining 69K units came from streaming, with the album generating around 93 million on-demand streams in its first week. That’s a strong showing, but it’s the physical love from Tyler’s fanbase that really pushed the album to the top.

Tyler created much of DON’T TAP THE GLASS while on tour, and the album reflects that energy. At a recent release party in New York City, he opened up about the creative process, saying: “Making this st on tour, this album, this 10-song, 30-minute thing… Was giving me so much life on this motherf*ing tour… I just wanted to make s**t.” The project was born partly out of conversations with friends about the lack of dancing in public spaces—a theme that inspired some of the album’s most infectious and joyful tracks. This sonic shift doesn’t abandon his experimental roots but instead blends his signature style with a more upbeat, groove-heavy direction that has fans and critics alike buzzing.

As with every high-profile release, the rumor mill is churning. Observant fans noticed that Tyler and longtime collaborator Frank Ocean appeared to unfollow each other on Instagram, sparking wild speculation about a potential fallout. While there’s no confirmation of any tension, social media sleuths have been hard at work trying to decipher the unfollows.

Still, even as internet gossip threatens to overshadow the music, Tyler’s artistry remains front and center. DON’T TAP THE GLASS is not just a commercial win—it’s a creative triumph that continues his evolution as an artist unafraid to challenge expectations. With four back-to-back No. 1 albums and a fiercely loyal fanbase willing to buy physical copies in an era dominated by digital, Tyler, The Creator is dancing to the beat of his own drum—and the world is dancing right along with him.
