Kendrick Lamar and Beyoncé’s “Freedom” Powers Trailer for Leonardo DiCaprio’s New Film One Battle After Another

Kendrick Lamar and Beyoncé’s explosive collaboration “Freedom” is making waves once again—this time as the powerful soundtrack to the trailer for One Battle After Another, the new film starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson, the movie is slated to hit theaters on September 26 and features a star-studded cast including Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, and singer-actor Teyana Taylor.
The emotionally charged trailer sets the tone for what promises to be a gripping, politically charged thriller. DiCaprio and Taylor portray former revolutionaries on the run from a white supremacist police officer, with Kendrick and Beyoncé’s fiery anthem adding a raw urgency to the preview. “Freedom,” first released in 2016 on Beyoncé’s Lemonade album, has long been hailed for its blistering vocals and themes of liberation—making it a fitting backdrop for a story about resistance and survival. While it’s not yet confirmed whether the song will appear in the film itself, its inclusion in the trailer has already generated major buzz online.
One Battle After Another signals yet another step in Kendrick Lamar’s growing presence in Hollywood. The Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper is currently producing and starring in an upcoming feature film set for release on March 20, 2026. Originally intended for a July 4 release to coincide with the summer blockbuster season, the film was pushed back due to scheduling conflicts with Kendrick’s Grand National Tour with SZA, which ran from April through August.
The yet-untitled film marks Kendrick’s acting debut and is a collaboration with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Though plot details remain scarce, early reports suggest the film—rumored to be titled Whitney Springs—will explore provocative themes. Sources say the story follows a Black man working as a slave re-enactor at a living history museum, who discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his family. The dark comedy is expected to blend satire with social commentary, in line with the creative sensibilities of both Kendrick and the South Park team.
Joining the cast are The Fabelmans breakout Chloe East and newcomer Celeste Octavia, who has previously appeared in music videos for Oasis and Depeche Mode. The production was spotted filming last year in Pomona, California, although it remains unclear whether principal photography has concluded.
As anticipation builds for both projects, Kendrick Lamar continues to push creative boundaries—whether on stage, in the studio, or on the silver screen. His contribution to the One Battle After Another trailer, paired with Beyoncé’s commanding vocals, has already reignited interest in “Freedom,” reminding fans of the enduring power of music in storytelling.
