Benny the Butcher Fires Back at Freddie Gibbs on New Track “Position of Power” Amid Ongoing Rap Feud

Benny the Butcher has reignited his long-standing feud with Freddie Gibbs on his latest track, “Position of Power,” featuring Austin Sour and Rain910. Released this past weekend, the song sees Benny taking direct aim at Gibbs with pointed lyrics referencing past altercations and ongoing tensions.

On the track, Benny raps, “Rumors back home that we took some jewels / Some sh*t that don’t even cost a ‘B’ on my chain. Benny the Butcher the reason these rappers can’t eat in this lane.” The line refers to the 2022 incident in Buffalo, New York, where Benny’s crew allegedly snatched Gibbs’ chain during a physical altercation. Although Benny has never openly confirmed involvement, these new lyrics seem to acknowledge the situation in a veiled yet obvious manner.

The diss follows Freddie Gibbs’ shots at Benny on his March single, “The Big 2.” On that track, Gibbs didn’t just go after Benny, but also took aim at J. Cole and JPEGMAFIA. One of his most memorable lines taunted Benny’s album sales and promo efforts, saying, “My naked ass got more promo than your album / Man, this really ain’t no challenge,” in reference to Benny’s Def Jam debut, Everybody Can’t Go.

The feud between Benny and Gibbs dates back to 2021, after Gibbs made light of Benny being shot in the leg during a robbery attempt. Since then, the tension has grown with each public jab, both in interviews and in music. Benny addressed the situation during a 2024 interview on The Breakfast Club, making it clear he had no plans to reconcile. “Hell no,” he said when asked if he would make peace with Gibbs. “You don’t do that sh*t to people you cool with, and that’s just it. I really don’t have no problem with him. He never done nothing to me in life. I have no problem with him. It’s just that I would be goofy. And the people I make my music for would look at me goofy if I would stand next to him.”

The feud took another personal turn in November last year when Benny was seen hanging out with Gibbs’ ex-girlfriend, Destini Fox. Benny addressed that too on The Breakfast Club, saying, “I almost cracked up laughing but I gave her chain back. That’s the homegirl. I’m really a nice guy.” He added that Fox even attended his birthday party, insisting that she was caught in the middle of something she had nothing to do with. “She probably thought I was the devil, but she get to see that I’m a really nice guy, and that’s it. Nothing more. Nothing less.”

With Benny’s latest shots on “Position of Power,” it’s clear the back-and-forth between the two rappers is far from over. Fans are now eagerly waiting to see if Gibbs will issue another response, keeping one of hip-hop’s most heated rivalries alive and well.
