The Weeknd Announces Release Date for Hurry Up Tomorrow Movie and Album
The Weeknd is taking his creative vision to new heights with the announcement of his debut feature film, Hurry Up Tomorrow. Set to be released in theaters on May 16, 2025, the psychological thriller is directed by Trey Edward Shults, known for his acclaimed films Waves and It Comes At Night. The movie stars The Weeknd himself, alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan, and is described as a “musically driven psychological thriller.”
The film ties into The Weeknd’s upcoming album, also titled Hurry Up Tomorrow, which will drop on January 24, 2025, followed by a one-night concert event at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on January 25, 2025. This release marks the final chapter in The Weeknd’s musical trilogy, which began with After Hours (2020) and continued with Dawn FM (2022). The Weeknd has described the project as a reflection on themes of time, self-reflection, and transformation, promising a seamless integration of music and storytelling.
In a statement, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson praised The Weeknd’s innovative approach, saying, “Abel is a visionary whose art cannot be confined by any single medium. With Hurry Up Tomorrow, in partnership with Trey Shults, his musical universe expands onto the big screen with a psychological thriller that will usher in a new cinematic experience for fans.”
Produced through The Weeknd’s indie production banner, Manic Phase, the film will not only showcase his acting skills but also his music, as he co-composes the score with Daniel Lopatin. This ambitious project follows The Weeknd’s previous experience with the HBO series The Idol, where he also explored acting and production, despite the show receiving mixed reviews.
Fans are eagerly awaiting both the album and the film, as the combination of The Weeknd’s musical and cinematic talents promises to create a groundbreaking fusion of art forms. With record-breaking success on platforms like Spotify and a massive fanbase, Hurry Up Tomorrow is poised to captivate audiences and set a new standard for multi-dimensional storytelling. As the final installment in his album trilogy, the project promises an innovative cinematic experience that blends music, film, and The Weeknd’s signature artistic style.
