Ab-Soul Vows to Get ‘Soul Burger’ the Recognition It Deserves Amid Industry Overlook

Ab-Soul is speaking out against what he perceives as the industry’s failure to give his latest album, Soul Burger, the attention it deserves. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, December 16, the rapper expressed his frustration with the lack of recognition his November release has received, vowing to make sure it gets heard.

In a bold series of posts, Soulo began by saying, “THIS MAY BE DISTASTEFUL FOR ME TO SAY ON MY OWN, GIVEN THE INSATIABLE STATE OF SOCIAL MEDIA. BUT, FUCC IT,” before adding, “SOUL BURGER IS A PHENOMENAL BODY OF WORK. I PUT IT ALL ON THE TABLE. STOP PRETENDING TO OVERLOOK ME. ITS UNBECOMING OF THE CULTURE.”

The rapper went on to assert his determination to make his mark, writing, “I WILL BE HEARD. MARK MY WORD. LONG LIVE @DOEBURGER.”

Released in November, Soul Burger is Ab-Soul’s sixth studio album, following his 2022 release, Herbert. The album features 15 tracks and includes guest appearances from high-profile artists like Lupe Fiasco, Vince Staples, Doechii, JID, Ty Dolla $ign, Blxst, and TDE president Terrence “Punch” Henderson. The album also carries a posthumous tribute to Ab-Soul’s close friend, Armon “Doe Burger” Stringer, whose untimely death in 2021 had a profound impact on the project.

In an October interview with DJ Hed, Ab-Soul opened up about the album’s deep personal significance. The project came to fruition after the passing of Doe Burger, whom Soulo described as more than just a friend — he was his “big homie” and a driving force in his career. “He wasn’t no hype man or hangaround; he was really my big homie. He was really the star of it,” Soulo explained. “I just been trying to channel him… I got my hair braided — that was against my religion — I got jewelry on.”

The title Soul Burger represents the fusion of Ab-Soul and Doe Burger, with the album marking a departure from his previous works. “This album is not me – it’s Soul Burger. That’s not me. It’s like a new artist,” he said. “It’s not a Ab-Soul project, it’s a Soul Burger project, so I recommend everybody listen to it in terms of that.”

Despite his passionate plea for recognition, Soul Burger has yet to gain the level of attention he believes it deserves. Ab-Soul’s comments highlight the challenges that often come with being an artist who isn’t necessarily in the mainstream spotlight but is fiercely committed to his craft. With his declaration, Soulo is determined to make sure his latest effort doesn’t go unnoticed.

As the year closes, Ab-Soul’s message is clear: his journey is far from over, and Soul Burger is here to stay.
