Drake Faces the Heat from Vivek Ranadivé After Dishing Out Petty Remarks Towards DeMar DeRozan
Drake’s playful pettiness towards DeMar DeRozan has come full circle, as Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé decided to return the favor with some good-natured payback. The situation began when DeRozan, now playing for the Kings, made his first return to Canada in years during a recent game. His return stirred up some tension, thanks to his former connection to Toronto, where Drake is famously an ambassador for the Raptors.
During the game, Drake was spotted courtside, where he seemed to be giving DeRozan an intense stare-down. In a post-game interview with TSN, the 6 God made it clear he was not thrilled to be facing his old friend, offering a playful but pointed threat: “If you ever put up a DeRozan banner, I’ll go up there and pull it down myself.” He added, “Unfortunately, we’re playing this goof tonight, but it is what it is.”
However, it was Ranadivé who had the last laugh. At the Kings’ home game against the Raptors on November 6, the owner made a bold statement by donning a shirt referencing Kendrick Lamar’s chart-topping diss track aimed at Drake, “They Not Like Us.” To make matters even sweeter for DeRozan, the Kings triumphed over Drake’s Raptors with a decisive 122-107 win.
DeRozan himself didn’t let Drake’s comments slide without a retort. When asked about the rapper’s declaration to tear down his hypothetical banner, DeRozan was quick with a comeback: “He’s gonna have a long way to climb, I’ll tell you that.” Later, DeRozan took to Instagram to share a funny clip from the movie Friday, featuring Chris Tucker’s character, where he comically mentions getting tough only when Deebo’s back is turned—a lighthearted jab at Drake’s banter.
While DeRozan has a special connection to Toronto, he remains true to his roots in Compton. In an interview with The Breakfast Club, he explained, “At the end of the day, I’m from Compton. My city, where I’m from, where I was born, where my family still lives, that comes first before anything.” He added that although Toronto became a second home to him, his allegiance to Kendrick Lamar, who hails from Compton, remains unwavering.
DeRozan also revealed that since the feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake kicked off this spring, he hasn’t spoken to Drake. This rift was highlighted when Lamar name-dropped DeRozan on his diss track, “Not Like Us,” rapping, “I’m glad DeRoz came home, y’all didn’t deserve him neither,” referencing DeRozan’s 2018 departure from the Raptors.
As the drama unfolds, it’s clear that the playful rivalry between Drake and DeRozan, fueled by a mix of sports and music, is far from over. With Ranadivé’s playful jab and DeRozan’s steadfast loyalty to his roots, it looks like Drake’s pettiness might have met its match.
