Tyler, The Creator’s ‘DON’T TAP THE GLASS’ Dominates Global Spotify Chart Despite Surprise Drop

Less than a year after delivering the ambitious and introspective CHROMAKOPIA, Tyler, The Creator is back — and once again, he’s turning heads with his ninth studio album, DON’T TAP THE GLASS. Despite minimal rollout and a surprise Monday release (his second in a row), the California native continues to defy industry norms while keeping fans and critics fully engaged.

The new album arrived almost unannounced. Though Tyler teased a July 21st drop in a cryptic post on the 16th, fans only received official confirmation two days before its release. That kind of unconventional marketing might spell disaster for most artists. But for Tyler, who’s cultivated a loyal following built on unpredictability, it worked. Again.

While comparisons between CHROMAKOPIA and DON’T TAP THE GLASS are inevitable, the two projects are distinct in tone and structure. Still, when it comes to performance metrics, both albums opened with impressive strength. CHROMAKOPIA racked up over 85 million streams on Global Spotify on its first day, while DON’T TAP THE GLASS pulled in a more modest — but still massive — 40.6 million.

What makes those numbers even more impressive is that DTTG managed to dominate the Daily Top Songs Global chart, securing 30 of the top 50 positions. That kind of chart sweep speaks volumes about Tyler’s impact, especially considering the tight turnaround and lack of traditional promotion.

The album’s highest-charting song is the infectious opener “Big Poe,” which features a slick guest verse from Pharrell Williams and sits at number two globally. Other standout tracks like “Sugar On My Tongue” and “Sucka Free” landed at six and nine, respectively. The closer, “Tell Me What It Is,” rounded out the album’s presence on the chart at number 30 — mirroring how CHROMAKOPIA’s final track, “I Hope You Find Your Way Home,” also occupied the lowest debut spot at number 25 during its launch.

Sonically, DON’T TAP THE GLASS leans into groove-heavy, danceable production — a sharp pivot from the layered emotion of CHROMAKOPIA. Critics and fans alike have praised the vibrant energy, with many calling it one of Tyler’s most fun records to date. It’s an album that embraces playfulness without sacrificing depth, showcasing yet again his ability to reinvent himself without losing his core artistry.

Adding even more fuel to the album’s buzz is the music video for “Stop Playing With Me,” which features an unexpected but star-studded lineup including LeBron James, Maverick Carter, and Clipse. The visuals, like the album itself, are bold, unpredictable, and unmistakably Tyler.

With first-week sales predictions still to come, DON’T TAP THE GLASS is already proving to be another milestone in Tyler’s ever-evolving career. Whether or not it surpasses CHROMAKOPIA in numbers, it’s clear that Tyler isn’t concerned with topping charts — he’s busy setting his own.
