Tupac Would Be Critical Of The Grammys, Brother Says

Tupac Would Be Critical Of The Grammys Brother Says! A good number of rap fans have come up with their own theories about how how 2Pac Shakur’s legacy would be like had he not been fatally gunned down on September 13th, 1996. Many questions have been asked about how his discography would look like, which legendary emcees he would have collaborated with, what his thoughts on the current rap industry would be and so forth. Clearly these questions are endless, and the sad truth is that they are unanswerable.

Tuesday, March 17, 2021, TMZ shared a conversation they had with 2Pac’s step-brother Mopreme Shakur, who shared his own take on how 2Pac would react to the recently concluded 63rd Grammy Awards.

As TMZ reports, Mopreme believes that Pac would have numerous thoughts as well as criticisms to level against The Grammys. Mopreme goes further to suggest that the late emcee would be vocally “fighting tooth and nail” to institute change in the Recording Academy. He also echoed the view that many Grammy voters are usually denied full information about all the nominees, and are therefore not in a position to make sound and fair decisions. TMZ reports that Mopreme believes 2Pac would have felt the exact same way.

The report goes further to reveal Mopreme’s suggestion that Pac would not only criticize The Grammy Awards and the Recording Academy, but actively take action and apply pressure to facilitate the necessary changes. Mopreme also shares that 2Pac would have wanted the Grammys to refrain from the safe mainstream options, but rather shine a light on the new and upcoming artists putting out quality work. Using Samm Henshaw as a good example, Mopreme argues that Pac would have not have tired in his fight for the underdogs of the rap game.

Worth noting is the fact that 2Pac Shakur, arguably one of the most respected figures in the entire rap game, passed on without winning a single Grammy ever. His nominations for Best Rap Album in 1996 and 1997, were ultimately lost to Naughty By Nature and The Fugees, respectively. Come 2000, “Changes” lost the Best Rap Solo Performance award to Eminem’s breakout single “My Name Is.”
