However, as some fans would have it, Jesus Is King turned out to be quite a divisive effort. The album proved Kanye West’s deepest musical adherence yet to crafting a listening experience focused on his take on Christianity at least lyrically speaking. The album’s production, however, exceeded the expectations of many people including critics who were at first critical about the record’s underwhelming lyrical content and/or put off by the Trump-centered headlines that infiltrated the JIK era. The production received praise from fans and critics alike.

“There was a time I was letting you know what high fashion had done for me, I was letting you know what the Hennessey had done for me, but now I’m letting you know what Jesus has done for me, and in that I’m no longer a slave, I’m a son now, a son of God,” West revealed to Zane Lowe in a JIK-promoting Apple Music interview in 2019. “I’m free. The most space that I had to think is when I went to the hospital.”

After Jesus Is King, Kanye West dropped Jesus Is Born album featuring the Sunday Service Choir, in early January 2020. The rapper released called “Nah Nah Nah,” a new song last year, amid his ultimately failed presidential run.
