Fat Joe Faces Backlash Over Anti-Asian Remarks In New Song
Fat Joe Faces Backlash Over Anti-Asian Remarks In New Song! Benny The Butcher recently unleashed a sequel to The Plugs I Met album which originally dropped two years ago. His latest project, Plugs I Met 2 is produced by Harry Fraud and sees guest appearances from French Montana, Jim Jones 2 Chainz, Fat Joe, among others. While it was the expectation of many to talk about the high profile raps, one of the songs has sparked a little controversy owing to a few lines that Fat Joe, who is featured on the project, rapped during a verse.

On the track “Talkin’ Back,” Fat Joe raps, “Track me in and out of court, Harvey Weinstein / Threw that white up in the pot, gave ’em pipe dreams / And watch it spread like the Wuhan virus / Do ’em dirty for the low like Wu-Tang ’Sirus (ODB).”
Listeners were not so pleased with the lines for two reasons. First, they were not happy with Fat Joe name-dropping Weinstein, who is currently incarcerated- serving a 23-year sentence following sexual assault and rape charges. Secondly, Fat Joe did mention the “Wuhan virus,” an unwise and highly insensitive reference to coronavirus. This was seen as particularly insensitive going by the current increase in anti-Asian attacks, case in point, the mass shooting that took place in Atlanta earlier last week. As a result, many people flocked Twitter to express their disappointment with Fat Joe and his verse.
Explaining about how this project is unique from Burden of Proof, Benny revealed that it was the location and producers that helped accord each project their distinct energies.
“I recorded both projects [Burden Of Proof & The Plugs I Met 2]at the same time, so it’s the same headspace; but a different energy. I recorded Burden Of Proof in Cali with Hit-Boy and The Plugs I Met 2 in Brooklyn with Harry and you can hear that influence”
The Plugs I Met 2 is now out via Black Soprano Family. You can get it here.
