Dr. Dre Wants Judge To Declare Him ‘Single’ Amid Ongoing Divorce Case! According to TMZ, Dr. Dre is asking the judge to declare him “single, ” in what appears like his latest attempt to reach some kind of resolution in what seems to be a long, messy divorce with his estranged wife Nicole Young.

Dr. Dre’s attorney Laura Wasser filed for bifurcation (legal jargon for both parties getting single status STAT, and figuring out the issue of sharing their assets later). Laura argues that Dre’s ex-wife’s “false allegations of domestic violence” clearly demonstrate the fact that their union is beyond repair. Nicole Young  alleges that Dre held a gun to her head on two different occasions in 2000 and 2001, punching her face twice, and even knocked down the door of a room she had been “hiding from his rage in 2016.” Young says she suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder following Dr. Dre’s alleged verbal and emotional abuse.

Last week, Young’s request for a restraining order was thrown out after the judge ruled that additional evidence was needed so as to grant her order. She wanted Dr. Dre to be barred from contacting her, be it via phone, text, and email.

In legal terms, a bifurcation of divorce means that a judge may choose to terminate a marriage and postpone other issues to a later date. According to their divorce case, both parties are at odds over the validity of their prenuptial agreement. Young claims she initially signed a prenuptial agreement, only for Dr. Dre to later tear it up. Dre countered Young’s allegations by filing the document including a clause that states that any amendments to the agreement can only be made in writing.  Dre’s lawyer, Laura Wasser has requested for a trial based on their contested prenup.
