With the release of the Judas and the Black Messiah film, the soundtrack hit streaming platforms this past weekend (Feb. 12th). At the beginning of last week, we heard a lot of press releases regarding the late Nipsey Hussle’s appearance on the soundtrack. The late Nipsey Hussle joined Jay Z for “What It Feels Like”, a record featuring bold lyricism over a Hit-boy beat.

A verse for “What It Feels Like” by Nipsey Hussle, a single from the Judas & the Black Messiah soundtrack, was actually from an unreleased 2013 record.

What It Feels Like marks the first time Jay-Z and Nipsey have been on a track together but Hov has always expressed his support for Nip. Back in 2013, as part of his Proud to Pay campaign for his real supporters, the late rapper was selling his Crenshaw CD for $100. Apart from a free ticket to his show, the mixtape also came along with an autograph.

It has now emerged that Nipsey’s verse actually came from a 2013 song by Mississippi rapper, Tito Lopez. One of Tito Lopez’s team shared the original on Instagram:

Nipsey fans, are most definitely pleased to hear his voice again. Even though the verse is from almost a decade ago, you can still feel the passion with which Nipsey delivered his verses. We can only imagine what else Nipsey would have added to the track before it was placed on the soundtrack, something that most of his fans are concerned about. Anyway that’s usually the thing with posthumous music releases, you can’t stop thinking about what we are missing.
