Kanye West Faces $30 Million Lawsuit From Sunday Service Crew

Kanye West Faces $30 Million Lawsuit From Sunday Service Crew! Kanye West is facing a $30 million lawsuit involving 1000 performers and backstage crew at his Sunday Service shows. The employees claim they were mistreated or not paid. Since Jan. 2019, Kanye has been conducting the extravagant shows across the US but lawyers are now being approached by a growing number of former employees who are unhappy with how they’ve been treated, sources told Page Six.

Last summer, Kanye West faced two class-action lawsuits over the production of his first “opera,” entitled Nebuchadnezzar, at the Hollywood Bowl in November 2019.

It featured hundreds of performers, the Sunday Service choir and a massive backstage crew of hair stylists, make-up artists, costume designers and actors hired to sit in the audience.

According to California employment law, performers and crew, who also worked one rehearsal day, should have been classified as employees but not independent contractors.

What this means is that they had a legal right to overtime wages, meal and rest breaks, but according to the lawsuits they got none of this neither were they paid on time.

One lawsuit, filed by Frank Kim an LA employment lawyer in August, focuses on the performers, which totals over 500 people. The other, filed by Harris & Ruble, entertainment attorneys, zeros in on behind-the scenes staff of around 300 people.

This could mean Kanye parting with $1 million for each lawsuit if he settles, but as high as $30 million if he decides to contest it. This comes amid Kanye West’s imminent divorce with wife Kim Kardashian.
