Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Good Kid, M.A.A.D City’ Back In Top 10 on Album Sales Chart After Eight Years –After an eight- year hiatus, Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid, M.A.A.D City has made a surprise return in the top 10 of the Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart.
MRC data released recently has revealed the album rose from Position 23 to Position 9 on January 9-dated chart after selling an approximated 8,000 copies in the U.S. for the week ending December 31, 2020 with strong vinyl album sales making up the total figure. A decline of 42.5 percent in overall sales for the week meant that Good Kid’s 32 percent decline compared to the week before beat the industry decline.
Good Kid debuted and ranked at position 2 on the Top Album Sales chart dated November 10, 2012. It was last in the top 10 on the chart on November 24, 2012, when it ranked at position 9.
To put things a bit into perspective, Playboi Carti‘s new album Whole Lotta Red opened at No. 6 on the Top Album Sales chart with up to 10,000 units sold, having debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Good kid, M.A.A.d City‘s rise in sales is attributed to Target, Walmart and independent record stores’ sales over the Christmas holidays, which has also led to the album rising from Position. 8 to Position. 2 on the Vinyl Albums chart — hitting an all-time high. In addition, the album sold 31,000 total vinyl album copies last month, and was the best-selling rap album of the year 2020 on vinyl album and 10th overall for the year 2020 with 117,000 copies sold.
