When the Grammy Award nominees were announced by the Recording Academy back in November, only Roddy Ricch and Samuel Gloade alias 30 Roc, were listed as the only writers of the mega-hit. It has emerged that the hit is also among those competing for two Grammy awards specifically reserved for songwriters.

It now follows that four more writers namely; Adarius Moragne (aka Datboisqueeze), Khirye Anthony Tyler, Larrance Dopson, and Aqeel Qadir Tate (aka Zentachi) have been added to the Grammy submission for “The Box.”

The submission was reportedly altered a second time, removing Zentachi as a co-writer and adding Eric Sloan.

As to why the writers were originally left off the song, or why Zentachi was replaced with Sloan remains unclear. When reached out for comment, Roddy Ricch’s representative at Atlantic records said the label had no comment.

What’s more surprising is the fact that Sloan is the only one among the writers who is listed as a writer of “The Box” with the Grammys but is left out on Spotify, BMI’s website and Atlantic Records production notes for the song.

During the first round of voting to determine Grammy nominees only Roddy Ricch and 30 Roc appeared as writers of “The Box.” It remains unclear as to whether the two names, or the current 6 nominees, were on the ballot’s list for the final round of voting, that determines Grammy winners.

The 63rd annual Grammy Awards ceremony will be airing live this Sunday (Mar. 14) at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Paramount+CBS and Grammy.com. The show can also be viewed via online streaming on CBS with free trials on fuboTV and Sling TV.
