Kanye West Drops New Song ‘Donda’

Kanye West Drops New Song ‘Donda’. The new song by Kanye West is to pay homage to his late mother Donda West.

Kanye West released the song titled ‘Donda’ on the 12th of July on Sunday evening. The song was released on what would have been his late mothers 71st birthday. He released the song on Twitter to honour his late mother and shared a message which said ” In loving memory of my incredible mother on her birthday [dove emoji] My mom reciting KRS1 lyrics This song is called DONDA”

In most of the song it features the rappers mother reading a verse from KRS-ONE’s 1993 song called ‘Sound of da Police’. The song also includes a sped up sample of The Clark Sisters and Mattie Moss Clark’s gospel single titled ‘They Were Overcome (By The Word)’.

Kanye’s verse in the song says “Momma, I need you to tuck me in/ I done made some mistakes and they rubbed it in. (Boy) I know you and grandma had enough for them/(Boy) Why I gotta be so stubborn then?/(Boy) I’m doin this one for y’all/ So we could end racism once and for all/ How many praises they gon make? (Uh) Watch the safe/One hand wash the other, both hands wash the face”.

The “Jesus Is King” rapper had a close relationship with his mother Donda, who died 13 years ago in 2007. She had complications after a major surgery and died. Kanye has offered odes to his mother in the past on Twitter, like the tribute song he did in 2016 on his late mother’s 67th birthday.
