Naomi Osaka becomes highest paid female athlete at 22

Naomi Osaka tops Serena Williams by becoming the highest paid female athlete at only 22. This is something that will forever go down in history and will always be one of her greatest achievements. According to Forbes the 22 year old made $37 million in the past year, this is more than any female athlete has made in history.

Naomi Osaka ,  born October 16, 1997 is a professional tennis player who represents Japan. Osaka has been ranked No. 1 by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), and is the first player of Haitian or Asian descent to hold the top ranking in singles. She has won five titles on the WTA Tour, including two titles at both the Grand Slam and Premier Mandatory levels. Osaka won her first two Grand Slam singles titles in back-to-back Grand Slam tournaments at the 2018 US Open and the 2019 Australian Open, and is the first player to achieve this feat since Jennifer Capriati in 2001.

That hefty bag from the past 12 months comes from prize money and endorsements, $1.4 million more than Serena earned, setting an all-time earnings record for a female athlete in a single year. Another tennis player, Maria Sharapova, previously held the record with $29.7 million in 2015.
