Gabrielle Union announces Vanessa Williams as her #WCW

In an instagram post Gabrielle Union proceeded to name Vanessa Williams, singer, actress, designer, author, wife, and mom as her WCW. She then proceeded to speak about the shows they have been on together as well as how Vanessa took her under her wing and “showed her the ropes”.

Union started her acting career in minor roles. Her first audition was for Saved by the Bell. In 1997, Union appeared in the sixth-season episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine—”Sons and Daughters” as the Klingon N’Garen. She also appeared in Sister, Sister as Vanessa, in Smart Guy as Denise, and in five episodes of 7th Heaven as Keesha Hamilton. She also appeared on an episode of Friends, “The One with the Cheap Wedding Dress”, as Kristen, a love interest to both Ross & Joey. Other earlier roles included teen movies such as 10 Things I Hate About You and She’s All That.

With Gabrielle being a black woman in the entertainment industry, it must have been heartwarming to have another black woman killing it and willing to take her under her wing and show her the way.

“Today’s #WCW is singer, actress, designer, author, wife, and mom @vanessawilliamsofficial. Vanessa and I were on Ugly Berry together, and she took me under her wing and showed me the ropes. She hipped me to the game and was kind enough to share her glam team with me to make sure I was comfortable and feeling / looking my best. With countless awards and nominations under her belt, including Grammy’s, Emmy’s and Tony’s, she has still managed to find the time to write a beautiful children’s book called Bubble Kisses (which is available for pre-order now @barnesandnoble & @amazon). Let us lift her up in the light of goodness and hold her there.”
