Offset opens up about the loss of his Migos bandmate Takeoff on his new song Never Let Go from the album KIARA. The track sees him grappling with grief and the lasting impact of Takeoff’s death. He raps: “Play back all the memories, hoping they don’t fade / Bando to the jet, jet to the stage / Hard to see my n-gga in that grave, this shit crazy / I give all this shit back just to get you back.” Later, he continues: “Can’t trust these n-ggas, fuck ’em, how I’m supposed to get over you? / Ain’t been the same ’cause this pain fuck up everything.”
The song highlights Offset’s emotional journey while also hinting at reconciliation with Quavo. The Atlanta rapper recently confirmed he and Quavo have been checking in on each other, leaving the door open for potential new music together as a tribute to Takeoff. Speaking with Ebro on Apple Music, Offset said: “It’s possible. No conversations about that, though, but it’s possible. First, we’re just checking in with each other and see each other’s worlds: ‘You good?’”
Offset also acknowledged his role in the estrangement with Quavo. “I’ve accepted the actions I’ve done to cause certain situations to happen — I had to. But at first I didn’t. I was trying to act tough and like I didn’t give a fuck at first. But the actions that I did in the time I was acting that way, I realized I was wrong. I realized I was wrong and had to get out of the way. I’m happy with everything and I want the best.”
Recently, Offset stated that his relationship with Quavo is stronger than it has been in years. During an interview in Brooklyn, he emphasized the importance of family despite occasional conflicts. “It be the internet trying to do some old shit, but with us, it ain’t about that. We gotta holla at each other in the day, at the end of the day, man. That’s family at the end of the day, man. You’re gonna bump heads with your family sometime. In the day, a n-gga ain’t finna play with him, or a n-gga ain’t finna play with me.”
With Never Let Go and the broader KIARA project, Offset not only honors Takeoff’s memory but also signals a new chapter of reconciliation and creative possibility with Quavo, keeping the legacy of Migos alive while navigating personal growth and healing.
