G Herbo Hesitates on Collaborating With NBA YoungBoy Amid Chicago Hip Hop Tensions

G Herbo has been a cornerstone of the Chicago rap scene for over a decade, building a legacy alongside local talents like Lil Durk, King Von, Polo G, and Chance the Rapper. Chicago artists often treat one another like family, standing by their peers through violence, feuds, and career challenges.
Recently, Herbo faced a moment that tested this loyalty. During a livestream captured by DJ Akademiks, while spending time with one of his children and close associates, a fan asked if he would collaborate with NBA YoungBoy. Herbo appeared caught off guard.
“Would I?” he asked himself. “Um… I don’t know that’s a good question.”
A voice from the background urged him to answer, but Herbo did not give a definitive response. Fans are now divided, with some interpreting his hesitation as an openness to collaboration, while others see it as a subtle refusal, communicated diplomatically to his son.
Herbo’s caution is rooted in the complex dynamics of Chicago hip hop. Publicly, he has no direct animosity toward YoungBoy. When the Louisiana rapper’s Make America Slime Again tour stop in Chicago was cancelled, Herbo expressed disappointment, saying, “I ain’t no hater… I wanna see him win… King Von is my brother. I don’t care about that type of sh*t… But I’m all for like empowerment when it comes to like black men.”
However, Chicago rappers, especially Lil Durk, maintain a long-standing feud with YoungBoy. The tension stems from the 2020 killing of King Von, which involved YoungBoy affiliate Quando Rondo. This incident triggered a multi-year conflict, with legal implications now affecting Durk, who faces accusations of organizing a murder-for-hire that accidentally led to the death of Lul Pab, a close associate of Quando Rondo.
Herbo’s hesitation reflects the delicate position of balancing personal values, hometown loyalty, and the broader landscape of hip hop rivalries. While fans continue to speculate, it remains unclear if a collaboration with NBA YoungBoy will ever come to fruition. For now, G Herbo’s response leaves the door slightly open while respecting the complicated loyalties of Chicago rap.
