Drake Teases Ninth Album ICEMAN With Innovative Livestream Rollout

Drake is building anticipation for his ninth studio album, ICEMAN, using a creative rollout strategy that is breaking traditional music release norms. In a recent email interview with Complex, the Toronto rapper shared insights into the album’s promotion, which so far has included three ICEMAN Episodes—YouTube livestreams featuring unreleased tracks.
The latest livestream took place in September, and on November 18, Drake released a condensed version of it, sparking speculation that a fourth episode may be coming, though this has not been confirmed. Drake did confirm that fans have more content to look forward to, stating, “The finale will be our best work.”
Drake explained his approach to album rollouts, highlighting both the appeal and the limitations of traditional methods. “I was asked by a creative partner what I love and hate about rolling out an album. I expressed that I love the opportunity for a clean slate of thoughts and excitement and messaging when it comes to the music. What I hate is the redundancy of this formulaic approach that’s engrained in our brains from early label days. Single, video, single, video, album cover post, etc.”
The livestreams represent a deliberate break from that formula. Drake described the format as a way to explore creativity and challenge himself. “I have been dying to act and have been dying for a challenge,” he said. “The game is extremely calm seas right now. Nobody is rocking any boat on the water and so once we discussed a live stream rollout, it just sounded like the perfect mix of risk and reward for me.”
By using livestreams to debut unreleased tracks, Drake is blending music release with performance art, keeping fans engaged while offering a fresh perspective on how albums can be launched. ICEMAN is shaping up to be one of his most experimental and eagerly anticipated projects, with fans eagerly awaiting the next episode and the official album release.
