Bad Bunny Claps Back at Critics During Bold “SNL” Monologue

Bad Bunny addressed critics of his upcoming Super Bowl LX halftime show during his opening monologue on Saturday Night Live on October 4. The Puerto Rican rapper and singer used the platform to defend his performance and highlight Latinx pride.

The NFL announced on September 28 that Bad Bunny will headline the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show. While many praised the choice, critics including conservative activists, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, and Fox News voiced opposition. Some questioned his decision given that he avoided U.S. stops on his recent world tour due to concerns about ICE.

During the SNL monologue, Bad Bunny acknowledged the controversy: “You might not know this, but I’m doing the Super Bowl halftime show, and I’m very happy. I think everyone is happy about it — even Fox News.” He followed with a satirical clip editing Fox News segments to suggest the network called him “my favorite musician” and even recommended him as president.

Bad Bunny continued, emphasizing the cultural significance of his appearance: “I’m very excited to be doing the Super Bowl. I know that people all around the world who love my music are also happy.” In Spanish, he added, “Especially all of the Latinos and Latinas in the world, and here in the United States, all the people who have worked to open doors. It’s more than a win for myself; it’s a win for all of us, showing that our footprints and our contribution in this country, no one will ever be able to take that away or erase it.”

He concluded in English with humor and confidence: “And, if you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn!”

The SNL appearance highlighted Bad Bunny’s commitment to representation and cultural visibility for Latinx artists on national television. Super Bowl LX is scheduled for February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, where fans can expect a performance that celebrates both his music and his heritage.
